NINA AND THE BABY SPARROWS
There was great joy in Nina’s house.

Nina's aunt was getting married.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_2.mp3
Nina, her father, mother and little brother were all going to Delhi for a wedding.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_3.mp3
Everyone was happy, except Nina.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_4.mp3
Her mother took her to the market to buy a new dress.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_5.mp3
“What colour would you like?” Mother asked.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_6.mp3
“I don't want a new dress, Mother,” said Nina.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_7.mp3
“Salwar- Kameez then?” Nina shook her head.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_8.mp3
“What about those lovely white shoes you saw last week?”
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_9.mp3
“I don't want those, either. Thank you, Mother.”
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_10.mp3
Nina’s mother was upset, but she said nothing.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_11.mp3
They went back home and had lunch.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_12.mp3
After lunch mother came and sat near Nina.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_13.mp3
“What is it, child?” she asked. “Why did you say 'no' to everything?”
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_14.mp3
“Mother, I don’t want to go to the wedding.”
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_15.mp3
“But why?”
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_16.mp3
Nina said nothing.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_17.mp3
Instead, two big tears rolled down her cheeks.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_18.mp3
Mother put her arms around Nina.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_19.mp3
“Don’t cry, my pet,” she said.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_20.mp3
"Why don't you tell me what’s bothering you?”
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_21.mp3
More tears rolled down Nina’s cheeks.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_22.mp3
“Mother,” she said, “there’s a sparrow’s nest on the bookshelf in my room.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_23.mp3
And there are two baby sparrows in the nest.”
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_24.mp3
“I see...” said mother.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_24.2.mp3
“They’re just beginning to get their feathers.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_25.mp3
And growing up makes them so hungry.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_26.mp3
All day long they cry ‘cheep-cheep’, asking for food.”
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_27.mp3
“I see!” said Mother.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_28.mp3
“If we go, the whole place will be locked.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_29.mp3
And how will papa and mama sparrows feed their babies?”
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_30.mp3
“Oh Nina,” cried Mother, giving her a big hug.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_31.mp3
“Is that why you don’t want to go to the wedding?
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_32.mp3
But that’s no problem at all.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_33.mp3
We’ll leave the window open.”
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_34.mp3
“Oh, can we, Mother? Can we? Really?”
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_35.mp3
“Yes, yes. We’ll remove all your things from the room and lock the door on the outside.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_36.mp3
So the house will be perfectly safe and papa and mama sparrows can come and go freely, too.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_37.mp3
Just think, Nina... while you enjoy yourself at the wedding,
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_38.mp3
The baby sparrows will be getting nice and fat in their nest.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_39.mp3
Good idea, isn’t it?”
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_40.mp3
When Nina came back from the wedding,
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_41.mp3
There were two plump little sparrows flying all over the room.
https://www.course.spokenenglish.guru/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Story14_42.mp3
And wasn't Nina thrilled!
